NEW COVENANT

The Old Testament details the everlasting covenant between God and Abraham, and his seed the Jews. Under God we are born as either Jew or Gentile.

Genesis 17:7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Psalms 105:8-10  He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations ... And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant.

Hosea 2:19-20 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.

That everlasting covenant also included land:

Genesis 15:18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates.....

Genesis 17:8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

That land is that same that we know as Israel today, though a severely chopped down version of it, through international interests facilitating the selling out of Israel.

The Old Testament contains historical accounts, many of them including considerable violence, in which Muslims like to relish. But even the Old Testament saints had laid down their swords, or suggestion of the use of a sword in God's service, long before Jesus was ever made manifest to us, through the love and peace of the new covenant.

Some Old Testament accounts are included as historical record and do not indicate God's tacit approval of some of those events that are recorded.

A good way to look at these accounts that come from the way God revealed Himself to us at our beginnings are as lessons for us to learn from. If you wish to explore these lessons in more depth try a conservative bible handbook, or ask a Jewish scholar to whom this Old Covenant was given.

According to Halley's Bible Handbook Jeremiah was called to prophetic office in 626BC.
Stunningly in the the book of Jeremiah he wrote a prophecy about a new covenant over 6 centuries before that covenant arrived in the person of Jesus Christ:

Jerimiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32       Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day [that] I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33 But this [shall be] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. 35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, [and] the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts [is] his name: 36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, [then] the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

Even through 2500 years of dispersion and persecution we find that nation of Israel did indeed remain very much intact, and were restored to the land they were given in that everlasting covenant.

Even more stunningly 100 years before Jeremiah's prophecy above, Isaiah offered the following prophecy:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

So we find that the Messiah Jesus, arrival on earth, was prophesied over 7 centuries before He was made manifest to mankind. He was prophesied even earlier:

Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Then in Psalms 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Psalm 22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

Just as the New Testament accounts of the event happened.

The old covenant that God had with the Jews included blood sacrifice for remission of sin through animal sacrifice. That was, of course, the purpose of the Solomonic temple that once sat on the temple mount.

Jesus Christ's crucifixion provided ONE sacrifice - and a new covenant - for the remission of sin for everyone in the world. Because some Jews couldn't hear it God extended this covenant unto the Gentiles:

Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

I encourage you to read the following exerpts in context in the King James version of the bible available at blueletterbible.com.

Muslim understanding is derived from the 23 year record of a single 6th century individual that they believe to be a prophet, who was, and taught, the exact opposite of what God revealed steadily over the 1600 year record of His Word, through all of the prophets, and legions of witnesses.

Indoctrinated into a 23 year context it's difficult for them to realize that when they quote the Old Testament they abuse passages of scripture that are thousands of years old that date back to the way God chose to reveal Himself at mankind's earliest beginnings.

Rather than study they prefer MISunderstanding Hebrew idioms and Hebraisms, and those ancient accounts, in a hopelessly failed attempt explain away the abhorrent behavior of their 6th century prophet as he is revealed through their own Quran and hadith and historical record.
